Capturing the Amazing Stories of America’s Seniors

EPISODE DESCRIPTION:

We all love good storytellers, and the best storytellers are the ones with the most to tell—America’s seniors, who have already lived long lives. But our older generations often don’t get a chance to tell their stories. In fact, they’re not even asked. But in today’s episode, I’ll be talking with Jack York, whose mission is to change all that. Jack, who’s been immersed in the senior living world for more than 25 years, is the founder and Chief Storyteller of Talegate. He now spends his days crisscrossing the country, capturing the amazing, often untold personal stories of seniors—including those of our oldest old, 100-year-olds, our nation’s centenarians, through a project called Vintage Voices. The story of Jack York and Talegate is an amazing, heartfelt story, and today, we’ll share this story with you.

ABOUT THE GUEST:

Jack York started out in Silicon Valley working at a tech company. His favorite part was traveling the globe, meeting people, seeing how they lived, hearing their stories…but trying to sell them semiconductors definitely wasn’t part of his passion. So, after 17 years, Jack left his job, packed up his equipment and—wondered what the heck to do with it. Following his desire to connect with people and help them connect with others, he and his friend Leslie donated computers to an assisted living community in California. The donation became a labor of love and led to the founding of It’s Never 2 Late (iN2L). Today, Jack wants to enrich their lives even more. At an age when most people begin their retirement, Jack wants to meet people in the middle of theirs and put their best stories center stage. He’s traveling the country in a 42-foot trailer to capture the lives of our oldest generation, and share their greatest experiences, triumphs, regrets, love, hardships, and comebacks.
